If you live in an older property, it is understandable to wonder whether the electrical wiring is still suitable for modern life. Older homes can have electrical installations that were designed for a very different level of demand, before we had multiple televisions, computers, large appliances, smart technology, EV chargers and all the other electrical equipment found in modern homes.

There isn’t a set age at which every house needs rewiring. The condition of the electrical installation is far more important than simply how old the property is. An electrical inspection can identify deterioration, faults, outdated components or areas that may need upgrading.

Some warning signs that your electrics may need attention include:

• Frequent tripping of your fuse board or consumer unit

• Flickering or unusual lights

• Burn marks or discolouration around sockets or switches

• Buzzing, crackling or unusual electrical sounds

• Old or damaged sockets and switches

• An electrical installation that has not been inspected for many years

• A home that cannot easily cope with your modern electrical requirements

If you have noticed any of these problems, don’t ignore them. Advanced Electrical & Charging Ltd can assess your electrical installation and advise you on what actually needs doing. We will always look at the condition of your existing electrics rather than automatically recommending a complete rewire.
